The Coach You Are and the Coach You’re Becoming
Region 3 Saturday Professional Development
Presenter(s): Hannah Lobdell
Session Summary

Every coach has a unique blend of strengths, instincts, and leadership qualities that shape the experience they create for athletes. But few coaches are ever given dedicated time or tools to intentionally explore who they are as a coach and how to grow into the leader they want to be.

This session guides coaches through a structured process of introspection to identify their natural strengths, hidden superpowers, and areas of growth. Through reflective prompts, scenario-based questions, and guided exercises, participants will uncover the attributes that define their coaching persona—from communication style, to energy, to class presence, to leadership tendencies. Coaches will learn how to:

  • Identify their personal strengths and “superpowers” as a coach
  • Recognize patterns in how they respond to challenges, conflict, and success
  • Understand which coaching skills come naturally and which require conscious development
  • Build a coaching persona that aligns with their values, strengths, and long-term goals
  • Use self-awareness as the foundation for better class management, clearer communication, and stronger leadership
  • Intentionally evolve as professionals, rather than coaching on autopilot

This course empowers coaches to step into their coaching identity with clarity, confidence, and purpose helping them become not just better instructors, but more impactful leaders in the gym.
