Beyond the Skills: Teaching Professionalism to Young Coaches
Region 4 & 5 Friday Business
Presenter(s): Katherine Thomas
Session Summary

At gymnastics clubs across the country, it’s common to see young coaches working their very first job. We often focus on teaching these coaches skills, drills, progressions, and technique; however, young coaches also need to know how to be a professional. Many new coaches lack experience with workplace expectations like punctuality, preparedness, appearance, and attitude. This session will cover key professionalism topics and effective ways to teach them, including: communication, reliability and accountability, appropriate conduct, appropriate appearance, and more.
