This session teaches the psychology behind skill acquisition and the science of how gymnasts learn: neural pathways, motor learning principles, cueing, and effective progressions. Coaches will learn how to teach skills in a way that reduces fear, improves consistency, and speeds up technical learning.

Session Summary

Fear is a common struggle for gymnasts, whether it’s fear of failing, fear of injury, or fear of performing under pressure. This session will equip coaches with tools to help gymnasts understand and manage their fears, ultimately turning those fears into motivation for growth. Coaches will learn techniques for building trust, helping gymnasts reframe their thoughts, and providing the right balance of encouragement and challenge to ease anxiety. The presentation will include strategies for desensitizing fear through gradual exposure, visualization techniques, and fostering a safe environment where athletes can push their limits without overwhelming fear. Coaches will leave with actionable strategies to help gymnasts face fear head-on and perform with confidence.
