Why don’t the traditional approaches always work? What if there were a different way? In this workshop, we will learn acceptance and commitment-based strategies to help gymnasts work through mental blocks in a new, exciting way. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to describe how fear operates; explain why acceptance and commitment strategies are helpful tools for overcoming mental blocks; and apply acceptance and commitment strategies to their work with gymnasts experiencing mental blocks.

This lecture will cover common causes of back pain in gymnasts, as well as some preventative steps that can be taken to change mechanics and lessen the chance of/recurrence of back pain. Objectives include identifying causes of back pain and who to refer the gymnast; identify mechanics that may lead to back pain; identify conditioning as well as skill biomechanics to help correct these causes.
We will be focusing on how the small errors in basics show up in the D and E skills, and how to fix them from the start!

During this lecture, we will be discussing how to introduce a successful recreational ninja program in a gymnastics club. We will offer our first year experiences, provide sample curriculum and class structure that is working for US, student engagement, and necessary equipment to start a program that stands out from the rest on a fully recreational base. We will share both the positives and negatives, as well as hardships that we have learned to navigate through the first year with no prior ninja instruction experience. So many gymnasts struggle with mental blocks and other limitations. While learning mental toughness skills is important, it is not the only piece to the puzzle. Learn about the connection between fueling and the mental aspects of gymnastics, and how to best support your gymnasts.
The initial start of practice is critical for proper mental, physical and spiritual development for the individual and group well-being. In a limited amount of time and space, athletes must warm up, stretch, condition and prep for their oncoming events. I will share specific line basics warm-ups that keep athletes moving, engaged, and focused with event-specific shaping, conditioning and drilling that saves time by combining warm-ups, lines and strength flexibility into one segment of practice.
